Qualtech Systems Wins 2002 Technology Innovation Award for "Intelligent Telemaintenance for Aircraft Wire Integrity"
Wethersfield, CT October, 2002...Qualtech Systems, Inc. has been chosen to receive Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine’s 2002 Technology Innovation Award. The technical staff and editors of the magazine selected only five winners out of twenty-five candidate technologies. Qualtech won the award for their "Intelligent Telemaintenance for Aircraft Wire Integrity".
At the heart of the award is Qualtech’s "Remote Diagnostics Server" (RDS). This exciting new product provides an enabling technology for emerging e-commerce "after market" service providers and new "Telemaintenance" applications. With this technology, users can upload sensor/test data to RDS over the Internet, have it automatically processed through the intelligent model based reasoner and see the resulting diagnostics on a web page in a matter of seconds.
After the initial "automatic" diagnostics are generated in RDS, users can launch intelligent dynamic test and maintenance procedures to resolve any remaining fault isolation ambiguity, perform the maintenance and verify the operational integrity of the system. RDS intelligently reasons through the procedure (presented through an Interactive Electronic Technical Manual – IETM) to produce an optimized, efficient maintenance and troubleshooting sequence. The diagnostic results, test outcomes and procedure steps taken during the maintenance activity are automatically logged into the RDS for later analysis or display during future maintenance checks. The RDS software is installed on a server computer so any number of users, from anywhere on the network, can access the system through their standard Web browser. The solution has demonstrated dramatic savings in support costs – as much as 75% reduction in troubleshooting time have been demonstrated.
Due to the development of their RDS, Qualtech Systems is teaming with Honeywell to provide advanced diagnostics software and maintenance planning. A key element of the NOVATM program is Qualtech’s monitoring/diagnostic capability. Their remote diagnostic server (RDS) software was originally developed for the International Space Station under a 1.3 million NASA Ames Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project. The NOVATM program is Qualtech’s first commercial RDS application (see www.novawip.com for details of the Honeywell NOVATM product).
